Let’s Hear It For The Boys! Men’s Aesthetics & Skincare Today

In his latest article, Amish Patel discusses men’s aesthetics and skincare and celebrates its rise in popularity for both client and practitioner.

This month I was interviewed for The Daily Mail Online about superstar DJ David Guetta’s new look. David, who is now 53, looks incredible, and it made me reflect on how attitudes towards men’s beauty and grooming have changed for the better over the years. When I first started our clinic back in 2016, we had a handful of male clients. Now, we are proud to welcome a large percentage of men through our clinic doors.

The rise in male aesthetic treatments has been considerable. These clients range from young men in their twenties wanting to enhance their looks with aesthetic treatments and develop good skincare habits in their youth. We also have a lot of male clients 35 years plus, looking to roll back the years. These clients are looking for rejuvenating treatments that will refresh their appearance and boost their confidence.

So what procedures are the most popular with our male clients?

I would say that Botox certainly is a popular treatment, but jawline filler is a close second and then cheeks, lips and the liquid nose job. Our male clients trust us to deliver natural-looking results. Some of our male clients are in the public eye, so this is also imperative.

I want our clients to get the response ‘wow, you look great, have you been on holiday?’, not ‘wow, where did you get your lips done?!’.

For me, aesthetic work should always look natural. The symmetry of the face is fundamental, and for men, getting that balance of improvement and subtle is critical.

Skincare for men is also a growth area in the beauty sector, but our clients appreciate skincare doesn’t just sit in the bathroom cabinet. Like David Guetta, they understand that it comes from living a healthy lifestyle.

To achieve beautiful, healthy skin from the inside, you need to be mindful of diet and keep an eye on sugar and alcohol consumption. Keeping your body hydrated and living an active lifestyle all go towards great skincare.

To achieve great skin from the outside, we create tailored skincare plans for our clients to sit alongside their aesthetic treatments. Just as no face is the same, a ‘one size fits all approach to skincare doesn’t work either.

We create bespoke skincare routines for our clients, picking the best skin care products off the shelf and prescription items for their needs.

During the last lockdown, we extended this service via free virtual video consultations with the option to buy all the curated products from our skincare store. They proved so popular that we have continued with them, enabling men and women the opportunity to take advantage of expert skincare advice and products even if logistically it’s not possible for them to travel to our clinic.

The future of men’s aesthetics and skincare?

I would say exciting! As a leading cosmetic clinic, we continue to expand our treatment menus and adopt new techniques to reflect and embrace these developments. Men’s skincare and grooming have come a long way from the wet shave and a drugstore moisturiser, and long may it continue!
